Principal Profile

William Darwin Prillaman began his architectural
career while still in high school in Martinsville,
Virginia, employed by a private practitioner.  He worked in a variety of  architectural firms while attending college, gaining early insight into the practice of architecture.

He received a Bachelor of Architecture degree from Virginia Polytechnic Institute & State University
and a Master of Architecture from the University of Virginia.  While attending the University, he qualified for licensure and became a registered Architect in the Commonwealth of Virginia in 1976 and a member of the AIA. 

In 1980, he began his own practice in Charlottesville, Virginia, where he specialized in residential, adaptive use, and historic restoration projects, including a Jefferson designed plantation.  In 1987, he expanded his practice with offices in Richmond and Irvington where the primary focus was and is waterfront homes and the restoration and renovation of historic riverfront estates and properties.

He is a Charter member and past President of the Lancaster County Chamber of Commerce, served two terms on the Board of Trustees at Chesapeake Academy, and is founder and President of The Boat Club, a private club in White Stone. His interests include watercolour painting, sailing, golf and tennis.  He is also a USPTR & USPTA certified tennis professional and teaching pro at the Tides Inn  in Irvington.
